Throwback Thursday 2
Sorry for being late this week! I was really busy and got caught up with labs, reports, and homework so I didn't have time to get the Throwback Thursday post up on time. But, I'm bringing it to you now!First, if you're a big fan of electronic music, you've probably seen videos from shows and you've probably seen the massive set ups that the artists have. (Sorry to disappoint again, but this isn't really old, I just thought it was awesome!) Now, just so you know, all those huge controllers, cables, and interfaces actually do have purposes and live shows take a lot of skill to pull off. This here is a video of a guy doing a live track from his house on two Novation Launchpads. It is incredible:
Alright, here's a real throwback. If you've never heard this song, you probably missed out on your middle-school years. It's by Sherwood, a band that was signed by Myspace Records. The song is called 'Song In My Head' and was featured on Myspace Tom's page for a long ass time. I'm bringing this one to you this week because the NEW Myspace just launched. Right now, the site is 'invite only' and it seems to be really focused on connecting through music. It's a little confusing, but much cleaner and modern than the original website:
So, I was sort of on an alternative rock streak this week due to the gloomy, global-warming weather. 'Runaway' is an awesome song by Kanye West, and although it's roughly 9 minutes long, this cover of the extended version by Silverstein is pretty damn awesome. (If you like this song, you might like A Day To Remember's cover of The Fray's 'Over My Head'):
Here's a remix by Adventure Club of Foxes' 'Youth'. This dubstep remix turns this song into hard-hitting, chill song. I'm not really sure if those two adjectives can really be put together, but hopefully you'll understand after you listen to this one. I had this bad boy on repeat for the longest time when it first was dropped:
This is a pretty dope song from Chiddy Bang's mixtape 'Peanut Butter and Swelly' called 'Baby Roulette' Ft. Train. You've probably heard this one before, but if not definitely download it because it is excellent. The hook is so catchy and Chiddy Bang's flow/voice fit perfectly:
'Won't Stop' by Matt Dubois is another chill, hip/hop song. I haven't really followed this guy too closely, but this song came out summer '11. It's the perfect song to listen to during the summer too because it just fits that mood so well:
So, this insane dubstep song by Skrillex came out early '11, but I feel like a lot of people missed it for some reason. Maybe that's just because nobody else likes Skrillex or I am completely wrong and everyone has heard it too many times. Regardless, 'Reptile (Reptile's Theme)', is an absolute banger that Skrillex put out in the hopes that a new Mortal Kombat movie would be produced. However, the amazing preview that went viral on YouTube turned out to be a short that was never really funded to be produced as a full length feature film. Anyways check this one out:
The Holdup is an alternative/reggae group that is pretty overlooked. I happened to stumble upon them while perusing the items in the iTunes store awhile back. I'm a pretty big fan of other reggae groups like Collie Buddz, Sublime, and Pepper just to name a few, but I've found myself listening to The Holdup a lot. This song by them is called 'Miss You':
Finally, I have two major throwbacks. These two were on my high school soccer team's warmup cd. Don't ask why, but they are great songs. The first is 'The World's Greatest' by R. Kelly. Yes, everyone knows R. Kelly is an interesting guy, but this song is so chill and he's got dopeass boxing gloves in the video. Second, we have a true classic with The Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back'. This song could possibly be one of the best songs of the last century. If you've never heard either of these songs, something is wrong with you:
Hope you all enjoyed! Sorry again for the lateness of this post! Check in next week for more great music! Thanks!
