A Little Introduction
Hello my name is Mac Sellers. I’m a junior at the University
of Michigan. I’m studying civil engineering which is a lot of work but it can
be fun. I would say I fairly involved around campus; I’m a brother of a
fraternity, a member of MPowered which is a student organization focused on
building entrepreneurship skills, I play a lot of intramural sports, attend a
lot of school events including sports games, concerts, parties, and other fun
stuff.
Basically, I was talking to my brother and two cousins who
just started their freshman years of college and I found how fun it was to give
them tips and tell them all about the great things that college has to offer. I
tried giving them some basic tips on how to succeed in the classroom, have fun
on the weekends, and take full advantage of the resources available at most
colleges and universities. I was dropping my cousin off at Iowa State a couple
weeks ago and the whole 5 and a half hour trip I was rambling on about what to
do and what not to do, how to stay on top of things and not stress out, how
great division 1 athletics are, etc. The excitement I got inspired me to share
my knowledge with other kids that are starting their college careers.
Obviously, I haven’t finished school yet, but that doesn’t
mean I don’t have something to teach younger college students. I think with all
the things I’ve done and accomplished so far at school, I’m somewhat qualified
to lend a helping hand to those in search of one. So, I’m making this series of
videos (blogs) on college tips so you’ll have some knowledge of what to expect
when transitioning from high school to college. These videos are solely based
on my opinions and in no way represent the views of every college student.
Also, some of the things I talk about might not apply to every school out there
so bear with me.
I plan to cover topics from college sports to boring topics
such as class and professors to the better part of school like partying and
Greek life to whatever else I can think of. I’m hoping that the few people that
watch my videos (read my blogs) and actually get something out of them will
leave some suggestions for future topics. Feel free to ask me questions or
leave comments and I’ll try to respond as promptly as possible.
In fact, that brings me to my first quick tip: schoolwork
comes first. I’m not going to make a full video (blog) about this but it should
be pretty obvious. The reason you’re going to school (hopefully) is to come out
with a degree that will allow you to get a better (better paying) job than the
one you could if you don’t go to college. I have a full class-load so remember
if I don’t respond to you immediately I’m spending my time focusing on my work
and/or other aspects of my personal college life.
I hope you know a little about me now! Please watch my future videos (read…blogs), subscribe, comment, and find me on FB and twitter! With a bit of luck, I’ll be able to help some people out! Thanks!
