On Repeat Week 13

On Repeat Week 13

Week 13 is here. I'm halfway through my finals and I have a couple days to just chill and study. I'm bringing in a lot a great music this week since I've been using all my time not spent studying to find new stuff. Hopefully, this will get everyone through the end of the week!

UPDATE: Blink-182 just released their new five song EP 'Dogs Eating Dogs' today. I posted the song 'Boxing Day' last week, but I wanted to try and post another today. The album title song 'Dogs Eating Dogs' is pretty awesome, and it's good to see them getting back to their classic style. In my opinion, their first album post-hiatus wasn't the same because Tom brought his whiny, bitch voice from Angels and Airwaves and tried to force it to work with the punk-y Blink music (don't get me wrong, I love Angels and Airwaves). For this EP, he's started to get back to the real Blink roots. **This video may be deleted from YouTube due to copyright infringement, but go buy the EP on iTunes now!**:

This one is off of T.I.'s new album 'Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head'. It's called 'G Season' Ft. Meek Milli. It was probably leaked a while back like most hip hop/rap songs, but I just heard it for the first time today. Check out the rest of the album because it's pretty sick. Here's 'G Season':

Here's 'Breach' by a new artist Ziu. I found this one randomly, but it has a catchy synth line that got me intrigued. The drop is pretty unique because it almost sounds like there's a scratching line. It's not a very complicated song, but I thought it was nice work from a guy that could make it in the future:

I have another mix for you today. If you have an account on YouTube, I definitely recommend subscribing to this guy, "SuicideSheeep". He has a shit ton of awesome long mixes that I've been listening to during finals week. It's great background noise to cancel out distractions. This one is a chillstep mix. It has some points that it picks up, but it's good for keeping you up. It's the 'Burning Snowflakes Mix':

Now I know that I just put a remix of this song up, but it's one of my favorite songs and this new version is awesome as well. It's Zedd's 'Clarity' again, but this is the Vicetone Remix. If you've never heard of Vicetone, I definitely recommend looking into his other stuff (Vicetone Remix of 'Sparks' by Fedde Le Grand & Nicky Romero is a great one):

Next up, we have Paypa's newest mixtape 'H.O.T.R. 3: Kim Jong iLL'. I had honestly never heard of him before, but I just found this while searching and it has some pretty sick beats. Just give it a chance and see if you like it as much as I did:

Here's one I found called 'Amok' by Yves V, Loopers & Jacob van Hage. This song just has some sick synth bass. The intro is a little soft, but at the 1:00 mark shit drops. I listened to this on my good speakers the first time through and it just blew me away. Check it:

Alright, I got this one from thissongissick.com. It's by Big Gigantic Ft. Griz and it's called 'Power'. If you've never heard songs from either of them, they have similar styles. They like the hard-hitting, crunchy bass that gets in your face. Just listen and you'll understand:

This banger called 'Jellyfish' by Jay Cosmic is crazy. It's a got a nice little bit of bitcrusher sound to it and starts out as a dubstep song. For the last minute, it picks up and turns into a solid D'n'B beat. Here you go:

This is a random video I found of Mac Miller performing a cover of Stevie Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely'. The video description says "a song for my daughter", but I couldn't find any information about Mac Miller having a child. Regardless, I hope he does a studio cover of this song and spits fire on top of this chill melody:

I have another Aylen Remix for you all this week. This is his remix of Coldplay's 'Fix You'. My favorite remix of this song is probably by Jakob Liedholm, but this one is chilled out to the max. He keeps the integrity of the vocals, but gives it that extra something:

This one is a sick D'n'B song called 'Magnetic Eyes' originally by Matrix & Futurebound Ft. Baby Blue. This is the Smooth Remix. The vocal track is clean and catchy and the standard D'n'B beat is upgraded to an even more energizing combination of sampling and bass:

Popeska is on the rise and this song 'As the World Falls Down' that he made with Anna Yvette is amazing. It's a little on the long side compared to most songs I post, but it's pretty standard length for this type of melodic house. Give this one a good listen through as it has several ups and downs:

This one is Revolvr's remix of 'Beats Inside My Head' by Scooter & Lavelle Ft. Sue Cho. It's a nice complextro house song that starts bumpin' at around 1:37. This banger is a nice wake up call/keep you awake song to get you across the final's week finish line:

This last one I have for you today is one of the many songs that have been written and dedicated to the children who lost their lives this past week at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. May they all rest in peace. This song doesn't have a title but it's by Alan Ritchson. He played the famous "Thad Castle" in the T.V. show BMS (watch the show if you've never seen it). He's actually a decent singer and this is a great tribute. Listen and remember those lost in this tragedy:

Well, I hope you all enjoyed some of the music this week. This post will be updated tomorrow. I'm anticipating the  releases of Angels and Airwaves' new double EP, Blink-182's new EP/album?, and many more. Keep checking in! Thanks!

Throwback Thursday 3

Throwback Thursday 3

It's a little late in the day and a little shorter than usual, but Throwback Thursday 3 is here. I have my first final of the semester tomorrow so I don't have a ton of time to dish out picks. I don't want to leave you all empty-handed though, so here are a few.

First, we have a song by Project 46 called 'Slide'. I don't know why, but I kind of feel like it has a similar melody pattern to Avicii's 'Levels'. Take a listen and judge for yourself:

Next, we have a good one from The Glitch Mob called 'Fortune Days'. If you've never heard of them, they're pretty awesome. They put out some sick tracks that really feature their characteristic style:

This here is an amazing mix of chill electro songs. I listened to this last night while studying and it's perfect background noise for studying or music to just totally relax to. If you're not a fan of mixes, that's alright, but I would definitely recommend giving this one a chance:

Finally, here's a banger for post-finals celebrating. It's the Lazerdisk Party Sex Remix of Afrojack and Quintino's 'Selecta'. I had this one repeating when I first downloaded it awhile back. It was the first song I had heard from LPS too, and it made me a fan of them. Check it out:

Sorry again for the brevity of this post! I'm putting all my effort into this last big push to kill off another semester, but I'm hoping to still get next Tuesday's post out! Thanks!

MUSIC SERIES: On Repeat Week 12

On Repeat Week 12

This is week 12 of music for all of you dedicated readers/listeners! Finals week is here, and although it's a bitch, we all have to deal with it. Luckily, without classes, you have so much extra time to listen to music (and study)! I've just found a ton of great new music sources as well, so don't be surprised if there are even more updates in the coming weeks post-finals. Let's get started.

FOR LAST WEEK'S ON REPEAT CLICK HERE: On Repeat Week 11

First, I have a new release from my favorite band, Blink-182. I've been following them for almost a decade now. They have a new EP that is set to be released next Tuesday, December 18. The EP is called 'dogs eating dogs' and this song is called 'Boxing Day'. It's kind of acoustic and it's sort of Christmas related, but it is pretty catchy:

If you're a fan of Madeon, you'll enjoy this song called 'Break Away Kicks' by TJH87. It's similar to Madeon's work in the sense that it is a very complex mix of electro sounds that give it a nice bounce and kick sound. This guy has some other great songs that you should check out if you like this one:

I had a craving for dubstep this week, so if the next few posts feel a little dubstep heavy, I apologize. This first one is the Mr. Moore & Space Prophecy remix of Natalia Kills' 'Mirrors'. The original is great, but the crunchy bass lines and "in your face" kick make this an awesome remix:

These two songs were posted on here previously, but I have some nice dubstep remixes of them. 'Clarity' by Zedd Ft. Foxes is a sick song on its own, but this is Aylen's dubstep remix. It doesn't drop as hard as most dubstep songs do, but it complements the vocals pretty nicely. Also, I have PRFFTT & Svyable's remix of Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble'. When I first heard the original, I knew it was a banger in disguise. These guys just give it a little more kick and highlight the song's true potential:

'Days Turn Into Nights' by Delerium is a super chill song, but Seven Lions steps it up a notch. Seven Lions is becoming one of my favorite artists, and he is constantly putting out new amazing tracks. He manages to maintain the chill, relaxed feeling in a lot of songs he remixes, but he knows how to add the subtleties that enhance songs. Check this one out:

Here's a banger for you all called 'Disque' by Firebeatz. This song will absolutely blow your mind. The drop is incredible and the whole song just emits energy. This guy takes modulation to a whole new level and gets crazy with it. Take a listen if you think you can handle it:

For a little break from the dubstep, here's 'Tip It Back' by Florida Georgia Line off of their new album that dropped last week. It was released previously, but I hadn't heard it until last Tuesday. It's a great country, party song that will lighten the mood on any occasion. I was planning on posting this one last week, but I couldn't find a video with decent quality. Here it is now:

Recommended by a friend, here's a song by rapper Yonas called 'Don't Give A Damn'. It's a catchy, party song that shows the talent of Yonas, off of his mixtape 'The Transition'. I'll tack on the rest of the mixtape as well, but definitely check out this guy's work. I'm a fan and I just found out about him today:

The Transition by YONAS
I put the code for the Yonas mixtape here. I've been having some issues with SoundCloud widget posts recently though, so let me know if there's a problem. Anyways, this is the early post, but I will make edits to include the newly released music tomorrow. I just wanted to get a little ahead. So enjoy this until I update it! Thanks!

UPDATE:

So I found another great song remixed by Seven Lions. It's called 'Still With Me' originally by Tritonal Ft. Cristina Soto. It was released awhile back, but was just rereleased on the UKF Dubstep album that came out a couple days ago. The smooth synth and vocals with Seven Lions' flowy basslines is perfection:

Here's a house anthem remix of Keane's 'Sovereign Light Cafe' by Afrojack. The main drop will definitely get you in the mood to put your hands up. I'm not sure if this is the whole version, but it's the best that I could find for now. Afrojack is an amazing artist, but I wish he would put out new singles more often:

This here is 'Clash', a club banger that I just found from Alesso. He is already a huge artist, but he is taking his music so much further than I had expected this year. With all of the great tracks he's put out this year, it's hard to believe he hasn't run out of steam. Give this one a listen through:

Big Boi just dropped his new album 'Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors' today. I put up his song with Kid Cudi called 'She Hates Me' last week, but here are two more of my favorites. The first is called 'In the a' Ft. T.I. and Ludacris. The second is called 'Lines' Ft. A$AP Rocky and Phantogram. Both are dope tracks:

I hope you enjoyed the music this week! Good luck with finals everyone! Oh, I also forgot to mention that if anyone has some picks of their own that they want featured on my blog send me an email with the title and artist. I'll review them and put them up in a future post if they're good! My email is: mckenrick18@gmail.com. Thanks!

Throwback Thursday (Friday) 2

Throwback Thursday 2

Sorry for being late this week! I was really busy and got caught up with labs, reports, and homework so I didn't have time to get the Throwback Thursday post up on time. But, I'm bringing it to you now!

First, if you're a big fan of electronic music, you've probably seen videos from shows and you've probably seen the massive set ups that the artists have. (Sorry to disappoint again, but this isn't really old, I just thought it was awesome!) Now, just so you know, all those huge controllers, cables, and interfaces actually do have purposes and live shows take a lot of skill to pull off. This here is a video of a guy doing a live track from his house on two Novation Launchpads. It is incredible:

Alright, here's a real throwback. If you've never heard this song, you probably missed out on your middle-school years. It's by Sherwood, a band that was signed by Myspace Records. The song is called 'Song In My Head' and was featured on Myspace Tom's page for a long ass time. I'm bringing this one to you this week because the NEW Myspace just launched. Right now, the site is 'invite only' and it seems to be really focused on connecting through music. It's a little confusing, but much cleaner and modern than the original website:

So, I was sort of on an alternative rock streak this week due to the gloomy, global-warming weather. 'Runaway' is an awesome song by Kanye West, and although it's roughly 9 minutes long, this cover of the extended version by Silverstein is pretty damn awesome. (If you like this song, you might like A Day To Remember's cover of The Fray's 'Over My Head'):

Here's a remix by Adventure Club of Foxes' 'Youth'. This dubstep remix turns this song into hard-hitting, chill song. I'm not really sure if those two adjectives can really be put together, but hopefully you'll understand after you listen to this one. I had this bad boy on repeat for the longest time when it first was dropped:

This is a pretty dope song from Chiddy Bang's mixtape 'Peanut Butter and Swelly' called 'Baby Roulette' Ft. Train. You've probably heard this one before, but if not definitely download it because it is excellent. The hook is so catchy and Chiddy Bang's flow/voice fit perfectly:

'Won't Stop' by Matt Dubois is another chill, hip/hop song. I haven't really followed this guy too closely, but this song came out summer '11. It's the perfect song to listen to during the summer too because it just fits that mood so well:

So, this insane dubstep song by Skrillex came out early '11, but I feel like a lot of people missed it for some reason. Maybe that's just because nobody else likes Skrillex or I am completely wrong and everyone has heard it too many times. Regardless, 'Reptile (Reptile's Theme)', is an absolute banger that Skrillex put out in the hopes that a new Mortal Kombat movie would be produced. However, the amazing preview that went viral on YouTube turned out to be a short that was never really funded to be produced as a full length feature film. Anyways check this one out:

The Holdup is an alternative/reggae group that is pretty overlooked. I happened to stumble upon them while perusing the items in the iTunes store awhile back. I'm a pretty big fan of other reggae groups like Collie Buddz, Sublime, and Pepper just to name a few, but I've found myself listening to The Holdup a lot. This song by them is called 'Miss You':

Finally, I have two major throwbacks. These two were on my high school soccer team's warmup cd. Don't ask why, but they are great songs. The first is 'The World's Greatest' by R. Kelly. Yes, everyone knows R. Kelly is an interesting guy, but this song is so chill and he's got dopeass boxing gloves in the video. Second, we have a true classic with The Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back'. This song could possibly be one of the best songs of the last century. If you've never heard either of these songs, something is wrong with you:

Hope you all enjoyed! Sorry again for the lateness of this post! Check in next week for more great music! Thanks!
